ABOUT US

The mandate of GigSpace is to enlighten, inspire, educate and promote music and musicians in a supportive and creative atmosphere. We reach out to our audiences and engage the community through concerts, masterclasses, workshops and music education courses. GigSpace Art Gallery showcases local visual artists and exposes their work to the community through a revolving monthly art exhibit. GigSpace Performance Studio was designed to provide musicians with an opportunity to perform in an intimate listening environment while allowing them to focus on their craft, interact with the audience and give truly brilliant performances. This space was created for musicians by musicians.

“GigSpace could have a very important cultural role in the future of musical creativity in Ottawa.” Jan Järvlepp

GigSpace is an initiative of the Ottawa Live Arts Community, a non-profit registered charitable organization.  Registration Number 84740 0702 RR0001.

We welcome your support, input, enthusiasm and help in developing this dedicated artistic space.  In order to accomplish our objectives, GigSpace generates revenue through ticket sales, corporate sponsors, grants, and donations.

History: GigSpace was transformed from concept to realization when Alcorn Music Studios (a locally owned, independent music school) relocated to their new location on Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario in September 2011.

Inspiration was drawn from GigSpace Santa Fe and the founder Bruce Dunlap who graciously shared his valuable insight and experience with us.

The current and larger location for Alcorn Music Studios features a professional sound recording studio and concert space. This space is leased to GigSpace.  The courses which AMS had created and the masterclasses and workshops they had hosted  including “Inside the Music Lecture/Demo/Concert” Series,  were also transferred to the new GigSpace in September 2011.

GigSpace applied to incorporate as a non-profit organization with charitable status to reaffirm the space as a community performance venue intended for education and growth of amateur and professional musicians.  The Artistic Director along with the Board of Directors have worked tirelessly on a volunteer basis to create programming, develop concert series, and promote the venue.

Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive about GigSpace including the quality of programming, superb sound, and intimate atmosphere.
