Ranging from evocative ballads, grooving swing, to latin/afro-cuban/world synthesis, share an enjoyable musical journey with the Dan Faulk Quartet. Dan and his quartet will present fresh harmonic and rhythmic takes on familiar jazz standards. They will also perform Dan’s original compositions, which have been performed and recorded by many leading jazz artists, including jazz greats Barry Harris, Rufus Reid, James Spaulding, and Benny Golson. 

Joining Dan will be his stellar ensemble, all based in Montreal QC:

Celebrated tenor/soprano saxophonist Dan Faulk has recorded on several CDs with many of jazz's legendary masters including Barry Harris, John Hicks, Louis Hayes, and with J.J. Johnson for Verve Records. In the mid-1990s, Dan was a full-time member of legendary jazz trombonist J.J. Johnson’s quintet for over 2 years. Dan recorded 3 CDs with Johnson, and is a featured soloist on J.J.’s Grammy-winning Heroes CD (guest Wayne Shorter, best soloist on In Walked Wayne) and Grammy-nominated The Brass Orchestra CD. From 1997- 2005, Dan was a regularly featured soloist with Steve Turré and the Sanctified Shells. For nearly 3 years, starting in 1992, Dan was a full-time member of bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Akira Tana’s quintet TanaReid. 

Dan has 3 CDs as a leader, Focusing In (Criss Cross), Spirits In The Night (Fresh Sound), and The Dan Faulk Songbook, Vol. 1 (Ugli Fruit). Dan's first CD, Focusing In, made such an impact that it was chosen to be featured on the cover of the 1995 Bielefelder Katalog--Europe's most widely-circulated and extensive jazz discography.  

In addition to his extensive performance career, Dan served as Director of Jazz Studies and a professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook 1999 - 2003 and as a professor at City University-York College 2003 - 2004. He has also been an adjunct jazz professor and lecturer at several colleges/universities, including Rutgers University, Long Island University, and Berkeley College. Dan is currently an editor for the Journal of Jazz Studies published by the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University. 

Dan has performed with several groups including the Cindy Blackman Quartet, the Henry Butler Quartet, the J.J. Johnson Quintet, Ronnie Mathews' Sextet, the Peter Leitch Sextet, the Ed Cherry Quartet, the Mingus Dynasty, the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra, the James Spaulding Quintet, TanaReid, and Steve Turré and the Sanctified Shells, to name a few. He has performed throughout the world at most of jazz's top clubs including New York City's "Blue Note" and "Village Vanguard," Oakland's "Yoshi's," Toronto's "Jazz Bistro," The Rex, and “The Pilot, " and Cologne, Germany's "Subway." 

Some of Dan's highlight performances in the jazz festival scene have included the "Playboy Jazz Festival" in Los Angeles, France's "Jazz a Vienne Festival," Holland's "North Sea Jazz Festival", Canada's "du Maurier Jazz Festival," and NYC's "Panasonic Jazz Festival." 

As a leader, Dan has toured in the U.S. and internationally with his own ensembles. He is a prolific composer having penned over 100 compositions to date, several of which have been recorded on his and other artists’ CDs. Dan’s compositions have been performed by leading jazz musicians, including Benny Golson, Barry Harris, Ronnie Mathews, Rufus Reid, and James Spaulding.

Since relocating to Montreal, QC, Dan has enjoyed performing with his group and a variety of ensembles at several top venues in Canada, including Toronto's The Rex, The Jazz Bistro, The Pilot, and Upstairs Jazz Café and Diese Onze in Montreal. He regularly performs with leading Canadian jazz musicians, including Dave Young, Bernie Senensky, Neil Swainson, Terry Clarke, and Jean-Michel Pilc.
