MICHEL LEGRAND – A whole life of exquisite melodies…

Nicole Ratté, a well-known jazz vocalist in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, pays tribute to one of her favorite composers, Michel Legrand. This is an invitation to dive into the repertoire of this fascinating and passionate artist who composed hundreds of songs and film scores, and who recorded more than 100 albums during his prolific career. You will hear many of Michel Legrand’s most beautiful songs as well as some lesser-known pieces that are just as delightful, whether in English or in French. Soft romantic songs will share the stage with energetic rhythms while a touch of humour will colour the whole performance. Nicole will be accompanied by talented musicians Tim Bedner on guitar, Normand Glaude on bass, René Lavoie on saxophone and Mike Essoudry on drums.

A musician and singer since childhood, Nicole evolved in different styles before developing a true passion for jazz. At home on the stage, she is known for her warm and effervescent presence and her light and sensual voice. She appeared several times at the Ottawa Jazz Festival and sang at Merrickville’s Jazz Fest, 1000 Islands Jazz & Blues Festival, NAC Fourth Stage, GigSpace, Salle Odyssée, Rideau Hall, Château Laurier, Hilton Lac-Leamy and several other venues and events.

For many years, Nicole also taught vocal jazz, piano and voice with her engaging enthusiasm. Her jazz workshops, created in 2004, have generated new jazz vocalists and fans. Since then, she has organized and produced dozens of concerts for her students. In 2014, she received an award for the production of her show « Le jazz d’une génération à l’autre » at la Salle Odyssée in Gatineau, an event that included around 40 artists from five to 75 years old, ( and which received rave reviews. She also organized a successful vocal jazz camp in the fall of 2019, a first in the Outaouais. Her album, When Somebody Thinks You’re Wonderful, on which you can find a beautiful rendition of Legrand’s You Must Believe in Spring, was recorded in 2010. Two of the songs from that album are now on compilations in Asia.

Tickets for the in-person concert include access to the livestream which may be re-watched any time after the original airdate.

Tickets are non-refundable.
